Barack Hussein Obama Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Barack Hussein Obama - Research Paper Example President Obama has a lot of depreciators and many reprimand him for things that he truly has no power over. In any case, in spite of this, Barack Obama speaks to America in manners that couple of different Presidents have previously. He is a one of a kind president that has been chosen since he has encounters and ascribes that intrigue to the quickly changing socioeconomics of the United States of America. A significant differentiation that President Obama has that makes him remarkable among Presidents of the United States is his ethnicity. President Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham, was an understudy in Honolulu, Hawaii when she met Barack Obama Sr. They were both concentrating in a similar program at the college. Ann was from a regular workers family that had lived all through the Midwest before moving to Hawaii. She was a keen, capable understudy with an enthusiasm for finding out about societies from all around the globe. Barack Obama Sr. was from the Luo clan in Kenya. As a ki d, he crowded goats in his local Kenya. He was going to school on a grant. Ann and Barack Obama Sr. hitched in 1961 and Barack Obama Jr. was brought into the world a couple of months after the fact. The way that Ann was a white lady from the Midwest and Barack Obama Sr. was a dark man from Africa is huge. President Obama became hesitant about his race when he was a youthful young person (Barack Obama Biography, 2011). He asked why being dark was looked down on by some white individuals. This is noteworthy on the grounds that President Obama is driving America during an age when ethnic minorities are the new greater parts in a few significant metropolitan locales. America is an all the more ethnically differing spot and it is significant that there are individuals in administration that have encountered segregation direct. A few minorities think the Barack Obama ought to help out them than he has while he has been in office. There might be not many authoritative triumphs he can highl ight, yet it is a great idea to have an ethnically blended President so the issue of race can be examined in a more productive manner than in the past in America. Barack is a significant President for our day and age since he is a minority and that enables all Americans to realize that minorities are fit for sound judgment and able initiative. Barack Obama’s guardians separated from when he was two years of age. He at that point moved to Indonesia and lived with his progression father, mother and step-sister for quite a while. This is a second explanation that President Obama is exceptionally able to be our President. He is the main President throughout the entire existence of the United States to have lived in a Muslim nation for any timeframe. America’s relations with the Muslim world are at an unsurpassed low in numerous regards. We despite everything have close partners, for example, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen. Yet, numerous Muslim nations detest Americ a and Americans. Having encountered Muslim culture direct, President Obama is in a solid situation to comprehend the Muslim world. He knows from direct experience that not all individuals in the Muslim world are terrible. He comprehends that by far most of Muslims are serene individuals that need harmony with America. President Obama gave an acclaimed discourse in Cairo not long after he was chosen. In this discourse he called for more prominent solidarity and comprehension between the western, law based countries and the Arab, Muslim countries (Holzman, 2009). It is intriguing to take note of that a considerable lot of those individuals that heard this discourse would start tranquil fights two years after the fact,

Ask Not What You Can Get, Ask How You Can Give

Ask Not What You Can Get, Ask How You Can Give Last night in Atlanta, amid the overwhelming tall buildings and sexy Southern accents, someone asked us a question: Why are you doing this? But the implicit question was: What do you plan on getting from dedicating a year of your lives to a 100-city free tour? It’s strange: we don’t look at it this way. We’re not on the road for ten months to get anythingâ€"ours is a journey of giving. We do, however, get satisfaction from adding value to others’ livesâ€"but that’s not all we get: we always get more whenever we give. It’s cringeworthy whenever we see people who attempt to get without first giving, to take without contributing. Scientists have a name for this kind of organism: a parasite. The key to giving, then, is simple: add value first without any expectation of receiving anything in return. Do this with enough frequency and you’ll get way more than you give. As a result of our giving, people have given back to us immensely: Everything That Remains reached the top ten of all books on Amazon as of the date of this writing (thank you!). More than 75,000 people RSVP’d for our last tour. We’ve been featured all over the media, and more than four million people will read our words this year. It turns out when you add value to other people’s lives, they’re eager to share the message with their friends and familyâ€"to add value to their lives. Adding value is a basic human instinct. That’s why we do this: we hope to serve others. Everything else is a wonderful bonus. If you find value in The Minimalists, consider donating a dollar.

How important is the theme of conflict in the play of Romeo and Juliet Essay Example For Students

How important is the theme of conflict in the play of Romeo and Juliet? Essay The play Romeo and Juliet is based on a love-hate theme which forms an ideal setting for intriguing and violent conflicts. Conflicts have wider ramification in personal, political, community and social lives. As this pertains to our lives the audience try to find similarities and follow the unravelling of consummate interest. Many successful dramas like Ben-Hur, Cleopatra, and Where Eagles Dare, etc. use conflict as the main theme. Conflict is important in Romeo and Juliet because it makes their relationship exceptionally special and establishes victory of love over hate. The story revolves around conflicts between two feuding families, The Capulet and The Montague. The skirmishes lead to unwanted killing of Tybalt by the hands of Romeo, which made him a sworn enemy of the Capulet. This hatred and enmity becomes deeply rooted and entwined as the story unfolds. In the follow up I am going to discuss the conflict in the Prologue, Act I Scene I and Act III Scene V. The prologue in Romeo and Juliet is an introductory speech in a sonnet form calling for the attention of the audience to the theme of the play. Written mainly for the theme of love, sonnet form is best for this play. It also precedes the first act of the play. The sonnet is a form of poetry written in blank verse which contains ten syllables called the Iambic pentameter. Each verse allowed the actors to give their own rhythm and find their own interpretation of the meaning. Prologues were often used to give an outline of a plot because in Shakespeares day and age the vast majority of the audience were illiterate and reactive who would spoil a play if they failed to understand it. So the prologue built them up for a good story which they could understand better and be excited for. Although the modern audiences might find it contrary to their interest if a prologue gives away the ending of a story. The idea of conflict occurs in the prologue. The quotation From ancient grudge breaks to new mutiny refers to a long-standing ill-feeling and grudge between two families which leads to new conflicts and confrontations. It relates to fresh outbreak of fights that resulted in death to members from both families. It mentions Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean meaning two families of good standing and equal status engage in heinous brawls and fights. They drag their reputations through the mud. Then the prologue mentions about the climax of the play saying A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life. This quote refers to the ill-fated children Romeo and Juliet from the two feuding families who become lovers and chain of unfortunate events lead there to commit suicide. This draws a tragic end to the play. Do with the death bury their parents strife tells the audience how the unfortunate and sad death of Romeo and Juliet brought an end to their parents quarrels. The shadow of painful early demise of their children left the two families so aggrieved and confounded that they were able to overcome their differences. They came to their senses and realisation that it was pointless and insensible to hate and fight each other. Finally near the end of the prologue the quotation And the continuance of their parents rage emphasises the long drawn out anger and rage of the elders from the two families. However prolong and intense this rivalry and hatred was, it was finally defeated by the overwhelming power of love shown by Romeo and Juliet. Through sacrificing their lives managed to put an end to the continuance of their parents anger. The prologue relates to the audience, the main theme and events that will unfold in the play. It generates interest and curiosity in the audience by creating contrasting views between the beautiful city of Verona and the violence that erupts between two long-standing feuding families. This mood gets poignant when the pair of star-crossed lovers take their life. Initially the mood of audience is of excitement and expectation on hoping to see the affluence of a beautiful city and its people. In the middle past the mood is one of suspense, thrill and confusion as they are told of violence and blood bath. At the end of the play the mood is sombre and melancholic when the tragic death of Romeo and Juliet happen. The tone in the prologue gets across the contrasting message of the play loud and clear to the audience. Initially the tone is flamboyant praising the beauty of Verona and the dignity of its people. Then the tone gets cynical describing the evilness of hatred and this lowness of violence. In the end the tone is poignant and sombre when it talks about the tragic death of the star crossed lovers. As a whole the prologue succeeds in creating of feeling of love, distrust, hate, suspense and ambivalence among the audience. Conflict structures the play. It forms the set and platform on which all the character and story builds up. Act I Scene I opens with a brawl on the streets of Verona between servants from different Montage and Capulet households. The props such as colourful flowers and a beautiful background of the city of Verona contrasting with what is actually taking place. The audience expect to see the male characters from the two feuding families enter the stage and engage in conflict and skirmishes resulting in fatalities. The families clad in colourful dresses as they belong to dignified families. Actors representing the members of the two families could enter from either side of the stage, emplacing the differences in their relationship. Only male actors would be expected to fight because of their dominancy. It was considered improper for woman to even raise their voices in public at that time. Female role were also played by male actors in female makeup and attires. Romeo And Juliet - Chain Of Human Actions EssayJuliet is lamenting Romeos departure but tells mother she is unwell. Madam, I am not well. Her mother misunderstands and thinks that Juliet is sad over the death of Tybalt. Yet let me weep for such a feeling loss. Juliet is weeping because she is experiencing the loss of touching Romeo. Well girl, thou weepst not so much for his death. As that the villain lives which slaughtered him. Lady Capulet is aimed on taking revenge and assumes Juliet feels the same way. Though Juliet says to herself, Villain and he be many miles asunder, then says to her mother, God pardon him I do with all my heart, And yet no man like he doth grieve my heart. Juliet meant that Romeo is far from being a villain. Ay, madam, from the reach of these my hands; Would come but I might revenge my cousins death!. Lady Capulet thinks Juliet would kill Romeo herself. Lady Capulet says she will send a person to Romeo with a bottle of poison that would kill him. Indeed, I shall never be satisfied. With Romeo, till I behold him -dead-, Is my poor heart for a kinsman vexed. Juliet says she would temper it (replace poison with a something to put Romeo to a light sleep). She is told that on coming Thursday that Paris will wed her at St. Peters Church. Juliet says Now by Saint Peters Church and Peter too. He shall not make me there a joyful bride. She could not imagine marrying anyone other than Romeo. Capulet enters the scene feeling sympathy for Juliets grieving, supposedly over Tybalt. In order to ease Juliets sorrow he arranges for her to marry Paris and when faced with Juliet outright rejection a new conflict over disagreement arises. Juliet pretends to go along with the advice but will also go to Friar Laurence for help. If he cannot do so she will commit suicide. Before Capulet begins the conflict between himself and Juliet he thinks that Juliet is crying over Tybalts death. Not proud, you have; but thankful, that you have. Proud can I never be of what I hate. But thankful even for hate, that is meant love. Juliet means that she cannot be proud to be Paris wife and she is thankful to her father for arranging the wedding with good intentions. How, how, how, how, choppd logic! What is this? Proud, and I thank you, and I thank you not. And yet not proud. Mistress minion, you, Thank me no thankings, nor, proud me no prouds. Capulet orders her to fettle your fine joints against Thursday next, To go with Paris to Saint Peters Church, Or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither. Fettle is like telling an animal to prepare. Out, you green-sickness carrion! Out, you baggage! You tallow-face! He tells her go away, Green-sickness carrion saying she looks as green as mould when dead, she is useless and has the sickness that comes from being a girl, not a married woman. Her father tells her not to speak otherwise that will give him a reason to slap her. Speak not, reply not, do not answer me. My fingers itch. An you be mine, Ill give you to my friend. And you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets if she is his daughter, marry Paris and if she refuses, she is not his daughter and that he wouldnt care the least about her. Capulets sudden eruption from concerned Juliets father into someone who didnt care the least about her shows his unkind and vile behaviours which Shakespeare uses as one of the strings to hold the ancient fued. As of this Juliet status and domination in the situation is no comparison to Capulets and so her voice is not heard during the conflicting argument. This also explains why as the Nurse and Lady Capulet defend on Juliets behalf their views were not taken into account. Western society no longer categorises fixed or arranged marriages as a norm. It accounts on mainly culture and belief in todays day and age. A girl in Juliets situation now would flee though in Shakespeares day that was not an option. So Juliet has to ask the Nurse for advice and help which would different for a modern audience. From what modern society does hold about arranged marriages is the desperateness of the girl in the situation when the marriage is not accepted and the talk of self-harm and even suicide comes to play. This would not be that different to watch for a modern audience. In Act III Scene IV the conflict is also developed by the actors every move. Directing the scene would involve make every move of the characters the right one. Tone, volume and language would play a part if conducted correctly. The language, tone and volume of high-status characters (such as Capulet) are very rhythmic, clear and his use of poetic language all characterise him. He would be seen towering over Juliet, Lady Capulet and the Nurse to show just the reign over status. The Nurse, very different in a status match against Capulet, would likely to have a murmured speech and would be out of the way in most conversation. Juliet may be on her knees or sat down uncomfortably when the conflict with her father begins. Lady Capulet and female characters in general are lower to the ground to further emphasise this. To the end, a Romeo and Juliet act without the conflict discussed has no story. Love has the foundation which conquers all literally. The play would still appeal to a modern audience as it has the element of both comparison and surprise, which will always make this love-hate story a truly special one. Show preview only

Macronutrient requirements are measured in grams (g) or liters (L). Vitamins and minerals are needed only in microgram or milligram (mg) amounts. They are considered micronutrients. Although we tend to think of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins as single nutrients, there are actually many different types of molecules in each of these classes. Carbohydrates include starches, sugars, and fiber. Some high-carbohydrate foods like potatoes, asta, and white bread contain mostly starch; some, like oatmeal, berries, kidney beans, and broccoli are high in fiber; and others like cookies, cakes, and carbonated beverages are high in added sugars. Foods that are high in fiber and low in added sugar tend to be higher in nutrient density, containing more vitamins and minerals per calorie than low-fiber, high-sugar foods. There are several types of lipids that are important in nutrition. The ones we hear most about are cholesterol and saturated and unsaturated fats. Consuming a diet high in cholesterol and saturated ats, from foods like butter, meat, and milk, increases your risk of developing heart disease. Consuming a diet high in unsaturated fats from foods like vegetable oils, olives, and avocados lowers your risk. Protein is also not a single substance. There are thousands of different proteins in your body and your diet. All of these are made up of units called amino acids. Different combinations of amino acids are linked together to form different types of proteins. The amino acids we eat in animal products better match our needs than do the amino acids from plant proteins such as those in rains and legumes. However, both plant and animal proteins can provide all the amino acids we need if the diet is chosen wisely. Water, unlike the other nutrient classes, has only one member. Water makes up about 60% of an adult’s bod y weight. We can’t store water so body losses must constantly be replaced by water in the diet. In the body water acts as a lubricant, a transport fluid, and a regulator of body temperature. Vitamins are small organic molecules that must be consumed in the diet to maintain health. There are 13 different vitamins. Each provides a unique function in the body, from maintaining vision to helping blood to clot. Minerals are inorganic elements. Like vitamins, they are needed for a variety of diverse functions such as keeping our bones strong and transporting oxygen in our blood. We consume vitamins and minerals in almost all of the foods we eat. Some foods are natural sources of vitamins and minerals: oranges contain vitamin C, milk provides calcium, and carrots give us vitamin A. Other foods have vitamins and minerals added to them; breakfast cereals often have almost 00% of the recommended intake of many vitamins added to them. Dietary supplements are also a source of vitamins and minerals for some people. UOP (2011) I intend to use this entire nutrient and diet information to gradually balance my personal diet to almost match the recommended nutrition I found through these resources. I am using measuring tools for food and reading the nutrition info on most foods before preparation. I will event ually blend good nutrition into my natural days. Pocahontas essays

Pocahontas essays The story of Pocahontas is well known, at least as it has been recorded by the Europeans. Many Indian nations including actual ancestors of the Powhatan tribe feel it is an inaccurate account of events. The Walt Disney Studios attempted to bring a story to the children of America. The objective was profit and entertainment so historical accuracy was overlooked. The 1995 Disney version of the story has dramatized the story of Pocahontas and John Smith. The writers and directors took obvious liberties and altered the story for the audience. The film directed by Mike Gabriel and Eric Goldberg seems to have held true in the overall European theory of the story. Basically, the daughter of a chief of a Native American Indian tribe fell in love with an English explorer and soldier and that romance affected the overall relationship and outcome of the meeting between the Native Indians and the English colonists of 16th century Walt Disney Studios used their creative animation techniques to present a story that seems as realistic as any full length motion picture. As is expected from the Disney Studio, there were many symbols and hidden meanings throughout the film which appeared to have been added to influence viewers. From talking trees to comic relief animals, the story is filled with various human, internal and external struggles that may have been wholly manifested by the writers and or directors of the film to show we can all live together in peace and harmony. Right from the beginning of the movie, Capt. John Smith is portrayed as a brave and heroic champion. In an early scene, the ship the colonists are crossing the ocean on is in the heart of a horrific storm. The captain is able to weather the situation better than all of the other sailors on the ship and continually moves through the storm as if he can fly. The focal point of the trip is when a sailor falls overboar...

Week 2 Economics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Week 2 Economics - Essay Example In such a situation, an increase in price causes the revenue earned by suppliers to go up and vice versa. In contrast, the price elasticity is termed elastic whenever the change in demand of a quantity is greater in comparison to a change in price. in this situation, an increase in price causes the revenue to fall and vice versa. In a perfectly elastic situation, a change in price will cause demand to fall to zero thereby bringing the corresponding revenue to zero. However, when the situation resembles a perfectly inelastic curve, a change in price has no influence on the quantity demanded and the demand curve is a vertical line, which is in clear violation of the law of demand. In a perfectly competitive market, a number of producers are producing identical goods with no product differentiation. Therefore, a producer cannot set any price as desired as doing so would put them out of business due to availability of substitutes. Accounting profit is price minus costs for all processes that help bring a product or service to the market. Economic profit is the money earned by investor as a result of their investments. As such, it does not have anything to do with the way firms use that investment to produce goods and generate accounting profit. Economic profit can be negative even when accounting profit is in the green zone. Short term decision making is driven by the immediate demand and supply forced in the market to which the firm may not be able to make major investments or changes and may have to use present capacities to produce the maximum quantity. Long term decisions require time to implement and must be planned in advance taking the long term demand and supply into consideration. The combination of price and the production function gives the cost curve. The total cost curve is the amount spent on all fixed and variable costs while the

Meaning of my quote (please look in the details box for the quote) Essay

Meaning of my quote (please look in the details box for the quote) - Essay Example I think that the connection between a leader and the followers is based on the spiritual foundations. The leader sends messages to the followers verbally. This is the most identifiable and easily recognizable form of communication and interaction between the leader and the followers. However, there is something more to it that just the followers can feel and is not overtly visible to the outsiders i.e. the emotional connection. Whatever a leader says or does leaves an impression on the followers. The followers are best in the position to comply with the instructions of the leader when they know what the basis of the demand from the leader to behave or act in a certain way or do certain things is. In order for an individual to be effective as a leader, it is imperative that he/she first earns the trust and confidence of the followers. The leader accomplishes this by assuring the followers that if they comply with the instructions of the leader and do as he/she asks them to, he would lead them to the results they want. Followers only abide by the leader’s instructions when they see their personal benefit in doing this. The personal benefits of followers vary depending upon what are the conditions or context in which they are following the leader. In an organizational setup, subordinates follow the instructions of the management because their wages are decided and performance is evaluated according to their compliance. In the context of a country, people pay taxes to the government because they are confident that this money would be used to provide them with more benefits. My quote emphasizes upon one main objective of leadership i.e. inspiring the followers. There are many ways in which a leader can inspire the followers. Different leaders have different strengths using which they inspire the followers. For example, certain leaders have good vocal skills and inspire the followers through their motivational speeches. Likewise, there are certain leaders

Promotional Mix Used By Two Selected Organisations Marketing Essay

Promotional Mix Used By Two Selected Organisations Marketing Essay Sales promotion tend to be thought of as being all promotions apart from advertising, personal selling, and public relations. For example the BOGOF promotion, or Buy One Get One Free. Others include couponing, money-off promotions, competitions, free accessories (such as free blades with a new razor), introductory offers (such as buy digital TV and get free installation), and so on. Each sales promotion should be carefully costed and compared with the next best alternative. 3. Public Relations (PR). Public Relations is defined as the deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an organization and its publics (Institute of Public Relations). It is relatively cheap, but certainly not cheap. Successful strategies tend to be long-term and plan for all eventualities. All airlines exploit PR; just watch what happens when there is a disaster. The pre-planned PR machine clicks in very quickly with a very effective rehearsed plan. 4. Direct Mail. Direct mail is very highly focussed upon targeting consumers based upon a database. As with all marketing, the potential consumer is defined based upon a series of attributes and similarities. Creative agencies work with marketers to design a highly focussed communication in the form of a mailing. The mail is sent out to the potential consumers and responses are carefully monitored. For example, if you are marketing medical text books, you would use a database of doctors surgeries as the basis of your mail shot. 5. Trade Fairs and Exhibitions. Such approaches are very good for making new contacts and renewing old ones. Companies will seldom sell much at such events. The purpose is to increase awareness and to encourage trial. They offer the opportunity for companies to meet with both the trade and the consumer. Expo has recently finish in Germany with the next one planned for Japan in 2005, despite a recent decline in interest in such events. 6. Advertising. Advertising is a paid for communication. It is used to develop attitudes, create awareness, and transmit information in order to gain a response from the target market. There are many advertising media such as newspapers (local, national, free, trade), magazines and journals, television (local, national, terrestrial, satellite) cinema, outdoor advertising (such as posters, bus sides). 7. Sponsorship. Sponsorship is where an organization pays to be associated with a particular event, cause or image. Companies will sponsor sports events such as the Olympics or Formula One. The attributes of the event are then associated with the sponsoring organization. Coke Product The Coca-Cola formula is The Coca-Cola Companys secret recipe for Coca-Cola. As a publicity marketing strategy started by Robert W. Woodruff, the company presents the formula as one of the most closely held trade secrets ever and only a few employees know or have access to. This Coca-Cola formula appears to be the original formula to Coca-Cola. It is from the book For God, Country and Coca-Cola. The company Coca-Cola is a multinational and it is not limited to one product. Through the years they have invented and introduced many products than their main cola drinks. The list of Coca-cola brands are as follows: Appletiser Aquarius BPM Energy Barqs Beat soda Beverly Cannings Cheers Ciel Fanta And up to 70 different brands ! Pepsi Product The Pepsi-Cola drink contains basic ingredients found in most other similar drinks including carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, colourings, phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid and natural flavours. The caffeine free Pepsi-Cola contains the same ingredients but no caffeine. Some of the different and varied brands of Pepsi are as follows: All Sport Aquafina Caffeine-Free Pepsi Crystal Pepsi Diet Pepsi Gatorade Izze Jazz Josta Kas Up to 40 different brands ! Coke vs. Pepsi-Product As seen above both the companies Coke and Pepsi have a number of products. Many of these products are innovations but there are also many products which are brought out just as a competitive product for the other companies. Some of these products that are brought in the market by both the companies to compete against each other are as follows: Coke Pepsi The main dark cola drink of the company which started the rivalry between these companies. Pepsi version of dark cola which is the major primary competitor to Coke. Full Throttle is an energy drink brand produced by The Coca-Cola Company. It debuted in late 2004 in North America. AMP is an energy drink produced and distributed by PepsiCo under the Mountain Dew soft drink brand. Vault is a carbonated beverage that was released by The Coca-Cola Company in June 2005. Mountain Dew MDX is an energy drink manufactured and distributed by PepsiCo under the Mountain Dew brand. It was introduced in 2005. PowerAde is a sports drink by The Coca-Cola Company and currently number two in the sports drink market worldwide. Gatorade is a non-carbonated sports drink marketed by Quaker Oats Company, a division of PepsiCo. Originally made for athletes, it is now often consumed as a snack beverage. Sprite is a clear, lemon-lime flavoured, non-caffeinated soft drink, produced by the Coca-Cola Company. It was introduced to the United States in 1961. 7 Up is a brand of a lemon-lime flavoured soft drink. Minute Maid is a product line of beverages, usually associated with orange juice, but now extends to soft drinks of many kinds. The Minute Maid company is now owned by Coca-Cola, and is the worlds largest marketer of fruit juices and drinks. It is headquartered in Houston, Texas. Tropicana Products is an American company based in Bradenton, Florida, USA, which is one of the worlds largest producers and marketers of orange juice. It has been owned by PepsiCo, Inc. since 1998. Nestea is a brand of iced tea manufactured and distributed by the Nestle companys beverage department in the United States, and by Coca-Cola in several European countries, Brazil and Venezuela. Lipton Original Iced Tea is a ready-to-drink iced tea brand sold by Lipton through a worldwide partnership with Pepsi. Coke Price Coke was a company ruling the markets before Pepsi entered. Earlier the price of coke was cost based i.e. it was decided on the cost which was spent on making the product plus the profit and other expenses. But after the emergence of other companies especially the likes of Pepsi, Coca-cola started with a pricing strategy based on the basis of competition. Nowadays more expenses are spent on advertising my soft-drink companies rather than on manufacturing. Coke has brought in a revolution especially in Indian markets with the Rs. 5 pricing strategy which was very famous. It was the first company to introduce the small bottle of Coke for just Re.5. This campaign was very successful especially with the price conscious Indian consumers. Even today most prices of Coke are decided on the basis of the competition in the market. Pepsi Price Pepsi again decides it price on the basis of competition. The best think about the company Pepsi is that it is very flexible and it can come down with the price very quickly. The company is renowned to bring the price down even up to half if needed. But this risk taking attitude has also earned Pepsi losses. Though lowering the price would attract the customers but it would not help them cover up the cost incurred in production hence causing them losses. This was the situation earlier but now Pepsi is a full-fledged and growing company. It has covered all its losses and is now growing at a rapid rate. Coke Place Coke is a multinational company and it has its market around the entire world. Pepsi Place Pepsi again has spread worldwide. Pepsi when entering a new market does not go in alone but it looks for partners and mergers. Till now Pepsi has collaborated with companies like Quaker Oats, Frito-lays, Lipton, Starbucks, etc. Pepsi like Coke has spread all over the world. It is because of this worldwide spread that now it is coming up with Advertisements which can be broadcasted in the different nations in the world. The recent example with would be the Pepsi advertisements having David Beckham as it brand ambassador. Promotion Both the companies Pepsi and coke are famous for their promotions. The rivalry was first started when Pepsi started with its blind taste tests known as the Pepsi Challenge. The challenge is designed to be a direct response to critics who allege that Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola are identical drinks, with no meaningful differences. The challenge takes the form of a taste test. At malls, shopping centers and other public locations, a Pepsi representative sets up a table with two blank cups, one containing Pepsi and one with Coke. Shoppers are encouraged to taste both colas, and then select which drink they prefer. Then the representative reveals the two bottles so the taster can see whether they preferred Coke or Pepsi. If Pepsi is revealed, the shopper is given a small prize. The implication is that Pepsi tastes better than Coke, and thus consumers should purchase Pepsi. In blind taste tests, more consumers prefer the taste of Pepsi to that of Coca-Cola. Because Coke was the historical leader, more people expected that theyd prefer and select Coke. Their surprise at picking Pepsi in the blind taste test (products were served in unmarked cups) helped change their minds about which product they prefer. Capturing this on film, Pepsi turned this into a memorable TV campaign that lasted many years. Also ad-campaigns are put up on the television by both the players. Mainly Pepsi is the company sponsoring most cricket telecasts happening in India and spends most of its revenue in that field. Nowadays both Coke and Pepsi are going in for Brand Ambassadors to promote their product. These brand ambassadors are famous people who usually people idolize and people can relate to them. A list of Celebrities that are brand ambassadors for the cola companies are as follows. These celebrities are not only asked to work in the advertisements but they also have to use the product promoted by them and they should not use the companies rivals pr P3: explain the role of advertising agencies and the media in the development of a successful promotional campaign Introduction In this assignment I must explain the reasons behind the choice of media in a successful promotional campaign. There are a lot of choices    that need to be made before setting up an promotional campaign. And if you want to make it successful, you have to make the right choices. Im going to find out in this assignment what the choices were for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class promotional campaign, and if they were the right choices. Theory Full service agencies          A full-service agency offers their clients a full range of marketing, communications , promotion services including planning, creating and producing the advertising,    they do the research and                select the media. Full-service agencies also offer non-advertising services. For example: strategic    marketing planning, production of sales promotion and sails training Specialty Agencies A specialty agency is one that either works with a particular industry such as medical, education, financial, insurance. They also work with a particular function like the internet, research, public relations etcetera. In-House Agencies Some companies have set up their own advertising agencies.   They do this to reduce costs and maintain greater control. Advantages    * Advertising agencies do all the work for you.    * They have a lot of knowledge and experience.    * The money you will invest will pay of (if the campaign is an success) Disadvantages    * Agencies cost a lot of money.    * If the campaign will fail, you will lose your money.    * You do not have full control. Evidence Product or Service Mercedes A-Class 180. Jung von Matt, a German advertising agency was founded in 1991. Today, the advertising agency offers a complete repertoire of marketing communication services: brand identity, direct marketing, events, film, literature, media, music, online, public relations, planning and, as always, advertising Characters, Theme, Focus of Appeal , Innovation In this commercial they only use the car as a character. The theme of the commercial is very futuristic and full of power. Its because of the dubstep song that makes it that way. In the beginning they only show specific parts of the car and play slow music, and then they show the whole car and play loud music.    This is very emotional because it gives you an adrenaline rush. Thats because of the dubstep music, the speed, the dark environment and the lightning. Its so cool.    The innovation is that its so futuristic. Its the first commercial that uses dubstep music. Increase in sales    Brand awareness    Competitive position    Consumer perception This car is released September 15th, 2012 so its new. But this car is so wanted that in June 2012 they already had 50,000 orders for this car.    Brand AwarenessMercedes-Benz is an well-known brand worldwide, but this gave the brand a more younger image.                The Rivals of the car are the BMW 1 series and the Audi A3. The price of this A-Class is higher than the other cars. But according to several reviews the car is worth its price.                This campaign created an whole new image for Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz was always known as an old brand. But this car and its campaign gave the brand an whole new younger image. Conclusion In this assignment Ive learned that it takes a lot to make choices. You have to do a lot of research and you must be sure that you have made the right choices. If you do not do that there is a chance that your promotional campaign will fail and you will lose your money. P5: explain the reasons behind the choice of media in a successful promotional campaignhttp://avantisport.nl/images/wysiwyg_uploads/images/nike-logo.jpg NIKE Just Do It http://avantisport.nl/images/wysiwyg_uploads/images/nike-logo.jpg Nike is the worlds Number 1 marketer of athletic footwear and the Nike swoosh logo to symbolize all Nike wear and became a symbol all known around the world. Nike is the leader in sportswear. Nike has been using the same logo ever since they established the famous swoosh. Not only does Nike have one of the most famous logo but Nike also has one of the most recognized slogans around: Just Do It I think that Nikes power to sell comes from the desire for cultural influences and athletic accomplishment. These desires come together in the hearts of consumers and give an undeniable need they got to have it for apparel. Nikes makes use of top athletes promoting their products appeal to countless ages and acts as a way to identify with and emulate their athletic heroes. These works powerfully upon the individual consumer. Nike promotes its products by sponsoring agreements with athletes, professional teams and college athletic teams. Nike is promoting itself as a brand that sells quality-designed goods. It is because of this extensive advertising and many sponsorship programs that Nikes products are priced higher than its competitors products.   Nikes focus has always been on athletes and has always used premiere athletes to help promote its products. It started off with Steve Prefontaine in the 60s wearing Nike running shoes. In the early eighties, Nike wanted to really grow and become a player in the sport of basketball. At the time, Converse we endorsing two of the NBAs biggest stars, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Nike took a chance on a young rookie who eventually became the greatest on earth. Nike created a signature shoe for the Chicago Bulls rookie guard called the Air Jordan. This was the best investment Nikes has and probably ever will make. Because of Michael Jordan being the most popular player in the league, the hype and demand of this shoe was unbelievable. Tinker Hatfield designed the shoe and he spurred the basketball shoe industry to new heights. The introduction of the Air Jordan line helped to create new lines of basketball shoes, including the Air Force and Air Flight lines of basketball shoes and apparel. Also, a new innovative technology was a layer of air cushioning in their shoes; this was truly a differential factor for Nike when placed in comparison with other shoe companies. Nikes Air Jordan shoe was the best selling and most popular basketball shoe on the market. The Air Jordan shoe reached a point in the mid-nineties. According to Donald R. Katz, when a small picture of Michael Jordan at practice wearing different shoes sparked a booming inquiry all over Chicago. One store alone received over 300 phone calls asking if they had the shoes in stock.   From the popularity of the Air Jordan, and innovative styles and colors of Nike, a sub-culture of shoe collectors was born. These people search miles and miles and often camp out for these Limited Edition shoes. Nike, knowing that this market exists, will make very limited release of some special shoes known as quick strike or hyper strike editions to cater to this group. These shoes include retro version of styles, the 360 Hybrids, Paul Rodriguez, Rejuvenations, Clerk packs, and many more. Because theses shoes are released in limited quantities and the demand is so high, Nike can sell these shoes at enormous profits. Nike CEO Phil Knight is not slowing down as he continually signs new colleges on as Nike endorsed schools, current and up in coming star athletes. Nike has reached a point where they can count on the Nike name promoting itself, Nike believes, If you have a body, you are an athlete. And as long as there are athletes, there will be a need for Nike ! P5: design a promotional campaign for a given product/service to meet the needs of a given campaign/creative brief. Aims and Objectives Every business has aims that they want to achieve, they might be overall goals and purposes that the business was set up to fulfil. So here below you see my aims and my objectives : Making a profit †¢ Providing goods or services to the local or wider community †¢ Maximising sales or improving the quality of a product service †¢ Being environmentally friendly Choice of media Spoken, written, or broadcast communication including television, radio, advertising, movies, newspapers, magazines, books, cell phones and the Internet is a mass media that affects our society and ourselves. The most widespread form of this communication media is television and Internet. As we all know advertising costs a lot of money so I will need to advertise on channels that my target group would look on. My target group are people between 18-32 years old mostly females so it would be smart to advertise especially on fashion and music channels such as: MTV and MCM.. For internet advertising I would use Google.inc and Facebook as two biggest internet advertising agencies in the world . As I already said my target group are people between 18-32 years old and mostly females. So in this case it would be smart to advertise on topics and sites that have something to do with music and fashion . And of course billboards. In my opinion billboards are not the best way to advertise because you see limited variety of information and often its not enough for the customer.. But the reason of my choice is based on next thought : if people see some billboards outside with Ice cream galore on it even with limited but interesting information on it they will get back home and search on the internet for extensive information . And that is exactly what I need. Promotional plan Promotional tools Advertising Print advertising such as that in programs for events, trade journals, magazines, newspapers Direct mail Outdoor advertising, such as billboards and bus boards Broadcast advertising on radio and TV (or Internet sites) Produce and distribute materials such as: brochures newsletters flyers posters Of course I will make sure that my package design will be informative and catchy. (For a service business, the design of my company collateral and, most importantly, the appearance of me and my staff.) Promotional Activities Sponsoring special events (like fun runs) Participation in community projects and boards of directors Trade Shows Your product or service might be one that is suited Trade shows are one- or two- day events that allow businesses to set show cast their products or capabilities. Fairs (like Health Fairs, Job Fairs) Give-aways (like caps and shirts with my logo) Coupons and free samples Conducting contests A campaign is overall plan for contacting and staying in touch with targeted members of the media (reporters). I may want to develop a media relations campaign if it would benefit my company to be mentioned in newspapers or magazine that are viewed by my target group people. Costs Hereunder some advertising costs : Google : à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬500 one-off paying amount for Google Ad-words. The cost for the continuous and intensive optimization of your Google AdWords campaign from à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬ 69 per week.(It can be more depends on the services and options you want to have.) Facebook Ads Cost Models When advertising on Facebook you can choose between two cost models: CPC: Cost per click CPM: Cost per thousand impressions CPC simply means that you pay when someone clicks on the ad while CPM means that you pay for each 1,000 people who have seen it. Both cost models use a bidding system an auction and the cost depends on what other advertisers are willing to pay for clicks or impressions from the same demographic. Again, in areas where there are a lot of advertisers competing for the same demographic, which is defined by your targeting preferences such as country, gender, age, interests etc., the costs are higher and vice versa. As always when it comes to Facebook advertising, youll see best results by testing both models and choose the one that meet your business objectives. But generally CPC gives a higher click through rate (CTR) whereas CPM generates fewer but cheaper clicks. TV Advertising Price for TV advertising is variable between à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬1000 and à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬350.000 for 30 seconds advertising depended of time of broadcasting. Billboards advertising Rates General: Billboard ad costs are set forth below for billboard signage. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Bulletin (Large Billboard): Range of à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬1,500 à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬30,000 per ad per 4 week period à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ 30 Sheet Poster (Medium Billboard): Range of à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬750 à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬2,000 per ad per 4 week period à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ 8 Sheet Poster / Junior Poster (Small Billboard): Range of à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬300 à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬750 per ad per 4 week period à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Digital Bulletin (Large Digital): Range of à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬3,500 à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬25,000 per ad per 4 week period for an ~8 second spot in a loop of ~64 seconds http://www.bluelinemedia.com/billboard-advertising Range of rates depends on timing and market. light pollution Essay -- essays research papers

Light pollution happened slowly at first which was several decades ago it was a process that was hardly noticeable. A light here, a light there, burning way into the dark nighttime realm, helping us see in the darkness when people all their our beds fast asleep. The process still continues today, with little thought ever given to what we are stealing away. Our intentions are good but our methods need adjustment, and they needs to be done immediately. In fact, our methods should have been changed years ago, but nearly everyone has resisted, perhaps due to a profound lack of awareness. The use of too many lights at night can cause environmental pollution, known as light pollution. Light pollution can block our ability to see the original shining stars, which can affect people’s discoveries in astronomy. But since the lights are also very important for us at night when we are driving or walking alone on a street, I think there are certainly some solutions for protecting our natu ral environment while we can also use the lights at the same time. To admire the beautiful stars in the sky instead of looking at it in a picture, we can start to save energy resources by cutting off some unnecessary lights such as commercial building lights, outdoor residential lights, and by using shielded light to reduce the amount of light that we use in certain areas. Light pollution is when sky glow produced by the scattering of artificial light caused by the poor quality of outdoor lighting (Nakata) causing too much wasted light dispersed upwards. Therefore recent studies show that â€Å"Nationally, more than 30% of the electricity generated for outdoor illumination is simply squandered by being misdirected into the sky. That comes to 4.5 billion dollars annually† (Lipsitz) for the electricity generated to send light into the sky and across property lines where it serves no benefit. Wasted light sent to the sky needlessly and seriously affects scientific research today for professional and amateur astronomers along with some NASA research. Astronauts have complained about this problem for years. Astronomical observatories are closing down because they can no longer see enough celestial objects to justify continuing their funding or research. For example, the Hubble telescope’s research is interrupted by light pollution, it was affe cted so much that astronomers did not get to see certa... ... studded with tiny points of light coming from countless miles away will return again where they belong, where they have always been since the dawn of time itself, and where they should remain for countless generations to come† (Haas,). Starting from today, we can do a little to help protecting our homeland that everybody shares, and give the chances to see the real stars in the future. “A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner †Foreshadowing Essay

Foreshadowing is often used by an author to heighten the interest in the story. The author of â€Å"A Rose for Emily† foreshadows the discovery of Homer Barron’s body in a few different ways. The smell that develops around Emily’s house, and Homer never returning to Emily’s house are both foreshadowing what happens later in the story. When Emily went into the drug store saying â€Å"‘ I want the best you have. I don’t care what kind'†,(William Faulkner) and purchased rat poison, it immediately informed the reader that somebody is the story was going to die. While reading this story, I believed that Emily purchased the rat poison in order to kill herself, not Homer Barron. Right at the end of the story, when the door to the house gets opened, the Negro immediately leaves, which indicates that he has got something to hide. We soon find out that he indeed had something to hide, Homer Barron’s body. Emily Grierson’s portrayal of reality is completely different from the reality surrounding her. Emily doesn’t allow the mayor to put up a mailbox in front of her house, and refuses to accept the fact that there might be mail coming to her house. She believes that since she doesn’t have any actual friends, there will be no mail getting delivered to her house. She believes that since nobody is friends with her, she should have no mail. Emily refuses to accept a lot of things. She also refuses to pay taxes because she has â€Å"‘no taxes in Jefferson (William Faulkner). After her father’s death Emily had been dismissed of paying taxes and had still not realized that time had gone by and things had changed. Emily also refused to accept her father’s death and follow the rules at the pharmacy when asked to identify the reason she that she needs rat poison. Emily Grierson does not seem to understand that things change as time passes by. Homer may have changed his mind about being with Emily, but Emily did not want to accept this fact. This may have c aused her to keep Homer with her forever, in her own, sick, twisted way.

Gun Rights And Issues Of The United States - 1558 Words

Gun Rights and Issues The second amendment states, â€Å"A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed†. As stated in the Wikipedia cite focused on the second amendment, â€Å"The right to bear arms is the people s right to have their own arms for their defense†. Breaking the exact amendment down in to pieces is as simple as that, but yet throughout our world so many citizens have different thoughts and opinions. In my opinion though, I feel we as American citizens have the right to self-protection and the right to bear arms in our own homes and this right should never change. The second amendment is not only personal for me but also for many†¦show more content†¦What are you going to do at this point? Surrender and say kill us all. Or stand up as a US Citizen should and protect your family as our ancestors have done for many years before. Without a gun in the household you and your family are prey to many predators that we have every day. If criminals know that families don’t have weapons they will immediately be drawn to the houses with the least amount of protection witch will cause even more crime and deaths of innocent people. People who are Anti-gun will come back and say, if we take away all guns less crime will be committed because there will be less weapons to use in the crimes. What they don’t understand is criminals already have bad records, so what’s it to them if they have an illegal gun in possession? Nothing at all. In reality taking away this right will leave innocent citizens with no protection and give crimin als easy access to crime. As free people we cannot let this take effect. Taking our gun rights away would not only hurt us as a whole but it would affect many crime rates, and not in a positive way. Not only has the second amendment right been a big topic for ages but it is actually the right that founded America. This right has so much history, that taking it away would not better our nation in any way shape or form. The right to bear arms as individual right was admitted by the Supreme Court of the United States in its result in the Dred Scott vs Sandford in 1856. During the colonial times, guns and fire
